The BDIXP (Burundi Internet Exchange Point) allows players in the Internet ecosystem in Burundi to exchange traffic locally in a neutral, secure and efficient environment.

Advantages of being a member of BDIXP

Joining BDIXP allows you to improve:
• the performance of local internet traffic
• the reduction of international transit costs
• the resilience of the national internet infrastructure
• collaboration between digital stakeholders in Burundi

  • Possess recognized legal personality
  • Be authorized to operate as an Internet service provider or operator
  • Hold a valid license in Burundi
  • Comply with the technical specifications of the BDIXP equipment
  • Respect the technical standards defined by the managing entity
  • Maintain a network infrastructure compatible with the exchange point requirements
Membership conditions

Any member wishing to connect to the BDIXP must accept the following principles:

  • Comply with the multilateral peering policy implemented by the BDIXP.
  • The exchange point operates according to objective, transparent, and non-discriminatory principles among members.
  • Members must pay an access fee set by the BDIXP managing entity and approved by the Regulatory Authority.

The following rules apply:

  • Selling transit through the exchange point switch is prohibited.
  • A member may not use another member’s international connection without their explicit consent
Who can join BDIXP?

The following are recognized as BDIXP clients:

  • Internet Service Providers (ISPs).
  • Telecommunications Operators.
  • Government entities.
  • Content Providers.
  • Any other legally recognized public or private entity in Burundi.
